I think this is also a very interesting question too. As a member of a 12-Step organization I am very aware of how much poverty of spirit there is in our physically comparatively prosperous community.

Dear Ruth, here I am 3 months later...so I apologize for not replying immediately. The fact is I don't know how to respond. I've never had the question put to me, so I struggle, and just as an opening, ask how we may know the inner, spiritual lack of people if we are not brought into their confidence? The materially poor and needy are pretty visible (I don't say not marginalized) but tribulations of the spirit? Maybe this is what we have spiritual directors, psychiatrists and confessors for. I welcome your thoughts, as you have thought about this, clearly.

Your photo of the food made my mouth water. My mother made great nalesnyky. So interesting, Myrna, the path you've chosen. I remember the women's auxiliary committee at St. Mary's Protectress Cathedral in Winnipeg. I miss the church service. Wish there was something closer. Good luck with your work as a new oblate and the discoveries that come with it.

For a long time I have noticed that "good works" are directed to the poor and needy. Perhaps some of the needy are wealthy as far as social and financial status but needy in heart and mind. Any contribution you would consider to those who lack poverty of spirit?
